Michael is a pharmacist with extensive experience in pharmacy benefit management (PBM), specialty pharmacy, clinical and health plan sectors. He is dedicated to making healthcare in the U.S. more accessible and affordable and is a thought leader in topics including improving drug access and patient care. In 2024, Michael established MERx Consulting, LLC to offer independent advisory services to healthcare organizations. Previously, he was Chief Pharmacy Officer at OptumRx, where he managed pharmacy services for more than 65 million patients. He also served as Chief Pharmacy Officer and Executive Vice President at Maxor Specialty Pharmacy and held leadership roles at Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy, UPMC Health Plan, and at retail and hospital pharmacies. Michael is the former Chairman of the Board of the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy.
